Description The story of a prominent family of five that lived in the Town of Paris in Central New York State in the mid-1800s. This small family made national headlines a number of times as they operated one of the largest cattle and farming operations in the state, employing many farmworkers and domestics who boarded in their huge home. News reporters claimed on several occasions that the head of the family was indeed involved as a confederate of the famous Loomis Gang that ruled the region with lawlessness. In the end, this well-to-do family of the Civil War-era suffered one tragedy after another that included the main theme; one brother killing his only brother, an event that culminated in his suicide. The afterword is written by noted author Art Davidson, who at the age of 22, reached the summit of Mt. Mckinley (now Denali) in the cold Alaskan winter. His connection to this story is truly surprising as it filled a void in his knowledge of the Davidson family roots.
