Vintage 2014 After a winter of moderate rainfall, Heathcote’s growing season was mostly warm and dry. Frosts during flowering kept yields below average. Extreme condition in January and February required us to get our act into gear for picking a few days earlier than usual. The grapes produced were vibrant and fresh, and lip-smackingly moorish. In 2014 the grapes were de-stemmed without crushing. The grapes were allowed to macerate on skins for two days prior to being inoculated with a selected strain of yeast. The grapes were fermented on skins until dryness (approx. 9 days) before pressing to a combination of mostly French and some American oak barriques, of which 30% were new.
